Boxer Machines: How To Beat Them

The age old Game of the boxer machine is simply an arcade machine sporting a hanging speed bag or pad that is unrestrained when the user puts in their coins or tokens into the boxer machine’s coin slots. To play the game, the puncher merely has to clout the device as hard as they can.

When struck, the bag is knocked back up into its tucked-away location, and the power of the punch that put it there is logged and presented as an electronic score. The key to performing well at the boxer machine is learning how to throw a strong punch properly.

Here’s a quick guide on how to that.

Position yourself with the foot that's on the same side as your punching hand, positioned further than from the bag than your other foot. Separate your feet somewhat wider than your shoulders. Keep your feet almost in line with the punching bag, so that a line from your back foot through your lead foot points a little to the side of the bag across from your punching hand. To make it easier to understand, let’s say for instance that a right-handed puncher would be standing so that their feet are orientated towards the left of the bag.

  • Remember to keep your weight slightly in front of centre, with your back heel off of the ground.
  • Keep both your feet on the ground during the full punch movement.
  • Turn your upper body to the bag a tad. Your chest should not be facing the bag, and it shouldn’t perpendicular to your feet either.
  • Turn your body toward the bag as you throw your punch, swivelling your feet forward and rotating your hips and shoulders towards the punch bag.
  • Direct your punch to the centre of the bag for the greatest power transfer you can do. Hitting the sides will diminish some of the force in the wrong direction you want the bag to go.
  • Propel your punch through the bag as hard as you possibly can. When striking, it’s best to visualise punching an object straight behind the target, instead of the target itself, to guarantee that there is no slowing down before the impact or the punch is pulled slightly.
With these tips in mind we’re sure you’ll be punching properly in no time.
